You Can Be Sure of God

In studying the word sure I found that some translations change it to trustworthy. In this study, we have seen a great deal of attributes that we all like to see in a person we consider trustworthy. God is a sure thing and so is His Law. We think it is restrictive, but in reality following it saves us from a great deal of harm and frustration in life.

Ps 19:7 NKJV
The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul;
The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple;

If we follow the Ten Commandments, we can be sure of quite a few things. We will know how to treat people properly, even those we consider enemies. We will know true love, love that lies down life to help another. Giving instead of taking for ourselves would become the norm. The person with the most toys does not win. Material things are soon long forgotten, but a legacy of generosity will live on and inspire others. The world would be a better place if we lived by Jesus’ example in how to treat one another. We don’t need to agree on everything, but we should agree that God got it right in how we should relate to each other.

Ps 111:7 NLT
All he does is just and good, and all his commandments are trustworthy.

We already discussed that God is good. If He were not, He could not properly judge the commandments He gave us. We can trust that they will help us live properly with others. They will set us free from all the hang ups we have due to not treating people properly. We all have made mistakes and truly admitting them to those affected goes a long way in better relations. It may not solve everything, but your conscience will feel better knowing you did the right thing per God in trying to correct a wrong.

2 Tim 2:19 NLT
But God's truth stands firm like a foundation stone with this inscription: "The Lord knows those who are his," and "Those who claim they belong to the Lord must turn away from all wickedness."

God will know who is truly His. We are the ones following His commandments. We are the ones admitting our mistakes in order to try to reconcile with those we may have hurt. Does God know you are His?

The Way

John 14:6 NLT
Jesus told him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.

A lot of people don’t like this verse. They want more than one way to get there. I’m glad there is only one right way because you know it when you find it. I’ve tried all sorts of ways to feel complete knowing there had to be something bigger than myself despite what I was taught in school. There is no hope in a world that was a random accident and then you simply die. I don’t like the idea of some great collective of spirit or mind or whatever. That has no hope since at the end you are absorbed into it. Then there is the whole rave of self help I experienced. If I could do it all myself, I would have known how to deal with life a long time ago.

I see science proving a precision that no random action could account for. There is a moral standard that can be found in humans living the most primitive ways to those living in great cities. Someone wanted us here and has implanted a desire in all of us to find Him. Of all the things I’ve studied, Jesus is the only one with the full answer. And if He lied about that, then He isn’t who He says He is. However, I have yet to find anything that proves God lied and that He doesn’t care.

Ps 119:30-32 NJKV
I have chosen the way of truth; Your judgments I have laid before me.
31 I cling to Your testimonies; O LORD, do not put me to shame!
32 I will run the course of Your commandments, for You shall enlarge my heart.

This is what I keep working on. Sure I make mistakes, but I keep learning more and more as I continue my journey with Christ. I believe what it says. I’ve seen far more things that make me believe than not. Some of them are the most awesome miracles that can compete with anything you read Jesus doing or what the disciples did after He rose to heaven. It all happens because God loves every one of us despite our sins and wants us to live a full life even here on earth where we have trials and tribulations. It can happen to you, if you simply believe and follow.

John 14:21 NLT
Those who obey my commandments are the ones who love me. And because they love me, my Father will love them, and I will love them. And I will reveal myself to each one of them."

The great thing is God loves us and if we want to show our love back, we simply have to follow His commandments. Love is a two way relationship and Jesus wants to not only be Lord of Lords and King of Kings in your life, but your close friend. That is how He reveals Himself to us. Without that relationship we won’t know the truth.

I’m a very analytical person, hence my life as an engineer and project manager. Faith is needed, but I can’t help checking things out. I can put more faith in Jesus being the only way to God than I can in believing we are random accidents of chance created out of a Big Bang. I’m sorry, nothing cannot create something. I’ll keep learning about our amazing world in my analytical way, but I’ll be doing it with the help of God and my faith in His Way being the Truth.

I wish I had learned like my husband as a child. We all need faith like a child even as we mature. Keeping it simple can help us not get distracted and my husband helps me with this. There’s synergy in our very different testimonies that help us follow Jesus and express this to the world.

What’s your testimony and are you sharing it? If you haven’t accepted Christ yet, take a step out in faith and see where the journey leads.

Wonderful

Isa 9:6 NLT
For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. And the government will rest on his shoulders. These will be his royal titles: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

What wonderful news this verse gave us. Jesus is our Wonderful Counselor as is the Holy Spirit that He sent after He ascended to heaven. We need not figure everything out for ourselves or even feel alone. We are made in God’s image, are wonderfully made, and have both His Words and His Spirit to show us the way.

Ps 75:1 NKJV
We give thanks to You, O God, we give thanks! For Your wondrous works declare that Your name is near.

Philip Yancey said, “It is a terrible thing, I found, to be grateful and have no one to thank, to be awed and have no one to worship.” I would agree with Him. Before becoming a Christian most things seemed to depend on self effort and we supposedly resulted from a big bang and are here because we won the lottery or something. However, I knew in truth something amazing happened in a concise way. Science had enough proven laws and facts to show this world was perfectly designed. When I met Jesus, I now had someone to thank and to worship. I believe that God’s creation is the only logical explanation to the world’s existence and our human lives.

Ps 119:18 NLT:  Open my eyes to see the wonderful truths in your law.

God amazingly provided us with His Word, the Holy Bible, to explain creation, our history, His Law, and as a guide to help us travel in the right direction while here on earth. The Holy Spirit will help us interpret it and discern the world around us for its application if we let Him. Following His Word and Law leads to many wondrous things even in a life filled with trials and tribulations. It is hard for me to express how awesome life has been since I accepted Jesus Christ. I truly feel saved from the miserable wreck I was. Without Him life would have gotten progressively worse. Thankfully I am now learning, growing and have a great relationship with Christ. His Law makes sense, and with His Spirit’s help is not that hard to follow, even if the world wants to make us think otherwise.

Joel 2:26 NKJV
You shall eat in plenty and be satisfied, and praise the name of the LORD your God, Who has dealt wondrously with you; and My people shall never be put to shame.

God does deal with us in wondrous ways to not only get our attention, like He did with me when I was desperate for answers, but it never stops as we walk with Him. I am still learning and I hope what I am sharing helps you decide to follow Him and learn His ways. It’s been a wonderful journey so far. I’m expecting it to continue through plenty more trials where I learn and can show Him better to everyone. I’d like everyone to come on this journey because fellowship makes everything better.

Great Is Our God

I am glad we have many words to help us understand God and to see Him as great, even awesome. When He created man and put us on the earth, He wanted to have relationships with us. He gave us free will to make this truly possible. However, He also expected to see misguidance, wrong choices and rebellion sever the relationships.

It took me a long time to figure out God primarily due to the people professing Him not showing Him properly to me. God wanted me and a relationship with me more than I wanted Him. He led me to people who did know and relate to Him properly. They would talk to me about God and what knowing Him meant to them. Eventually I realized I needed Jesus and relationships with these kinds of people. This knowledge kept me in church and gave me opportunities to learn more. The best part was the sense of true worship of Him every Sunday and a close daily relationship with Him. I can relate to Him and believe in the following verses.

Psalm 48:1 NLT
How great is the LORD, and how much we should praise him in the city of our God, which is on his holy mountain!

1 Chronicles 16:25-27 NKJV
For the LORD is great and greatly to be praised; He is also to be feared above all gods.
26 For all the gods of the peoples are idols, but the LORD made the heavens.
27 Honor and majesty are before Him; Strength and gladness are in His place.

Nothing else can help you overcome and I’ve tried a lot of things. It’s our great and mighty Creator that can help us. He made everything and made sure we could have the power to enjoy it all if we stayed in a relationship with Him. He also gave us the Law to help us understand how we can stay on the right path.

Hosea 8:12 NKJV
I have written for him the great things of My law, but they were considered a strange thing.

However, our world is shunning His Law. The culture does not want to see God as the ultimate being above all. Everyone wants to do things their own way. How many times did the Israelites have issues for doing things their way instead of Gods way? Every time they turned from God bad things happened. History should be teaching us something here. All the nations that ruled by might only lasted as long as they had human force enough to keep it going. The Israelites had a God to show that might when they chose to let Him be their King of Kings.

Lamentations 3:23-24 NLT
Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each day.

God is never going to let you down. I know when it feels like He has; it is my own selfish feelings or incorrect decision that got me to that feeling. I may have a lot of trials and tribulations in this life that seem never ending, but I won’t stop looking for His new mercies every morning I wake up.

Titus 2:12-13 NLT
We should live in this evil world with self-control, right conduct, and devotion to God, 13 while we look forward to that wonderful event when the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, will be revealed.

I am still working to live like Paul told Titus to do and I hope you endeavor to do the same. Why? Because God is Great!
